West Virginia homeschoolers have been invited to two upcoming events. See details below about Mountain Craft’s Film Festival on October 3 and the Pumpkin Festival on October 2 and 3.

Film Festival

Ben Berry, homeschool dad and CEO of Mountain Craft, is extending an invitation to the homeschool community to attend the third annual Mtn Craft Film Festival! The festival will be hosted at the beautiful Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in downtown Clarksburg from October 2nd to 5th.

This year, Mountain Craft will host a film screening of Small Town Universe and Q&A on the morning of October 3rd for local schools and homeschools, in partnership with Teen Screen. They see this as an excellent opportunity to engage and educate middle school to high school students, aligning with their festival’s focus on an enhanced awareness of and greater knowledge base about the  filmmaking industry. Film director, Katie, along with some of the film’s subjects, will be included in the Q&A in order to deepen the student conversation around filmmaking and STEM.

When: October 3rd. Doors open at 9:30am. The screening will take place from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

Where: Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center (444 W Pike St, Clarksburg, WV 26301)

Cost: Mountain Craft is offering this screening at $5 per ticket, which includes both the feature film and the Q&A. No need to register in advance.

Pumpkin Festival

The West Virginia Pumpkin Festival Committee has extended an invitation for homeschoolers to participate in this year’s School Days, held at Pumpkin Park in Milton, West Virginia, on October 2nd and 3rd, 2025.

For forty years, the Pumpkin Festival has celebrated the rich agricultural traditions, heritage, and creativity of our state. School Days was created especially for students, giving them an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom walls while enjoying a safe, engaging, and interactive environment.

During School Days, your students will have the chance to:

  • Experience agriculture up close through farm exhibits, pumpkin displays, and a petting zoo with live animals.
  • Enjoy live demonstrations that showcase Appalachian heritage, crafts, and skills unique to our region.
  • Engage with artisans and vendors who demonstrate traditional and modern crafts, providing insight into West Virginia’s culture and creativity.
  • Participate in activities designed to spark curiosity, foster learning, and connect classroom subjects to real-life experiences.
  • Celebrate the harvest season in a wholesome, family-friendly atmosphere that encourages appreciation for community, history, and agriculture.

They offer special pricing for students and chaperones in order to make this event affordable. Student pricing is $2.00 while teachers are admitted free. All other tickets are $5.00 until noon during School Days (parents, grandparents, additional siblings, etc). Included with student admission is a special token from the Pumpkin Festival that the students will receive when they exit the grounds.

To register or to request additional details, please contact Susan Runion, Committee Chair, and provide the name of the school, contact information, number of students, grade levels and which day you plan to attend. She can be reached at
